MobileMe: The Next Great Social Network?

Yesterday Apple unveiled a brand new AppleTV, a slew of new iPods, the 10th edition of a little apllication called iTunes, and a new social music network called “Ping“.

While Ping has a built-in user base and some exciting features, I think Apple could do much more if they really wanted to enter the social networking arena, currently dominated by Facebook. Sure, it’s going to be great to follow our friends and see what they’re listening to. We’ll be able to discover new bands and expand our musical horizons, but what more is possible? Read Full Post »

Do Great Artists Really Steal?

“Good Artists Borrow, Great Artists Steal”
Shockingly, this well-known Pablo Picasso quote is not an excuse to be lazy.

No one can argue Apple creates some beautiful looking products. From the iMac to the iPod to the iPhone and down to the Magic Mouse and even their rechargeable battery pack. This is a company that knows gorgeous design. When you hold an Apple product, it “feels” valuable. Read Full Post »

San Diego Comic-Con 2010

San Diego Comic-Con 2010

This past weekend I attended the San Diego Comic-Con. I’ve been wanting to attend this ever-growing geek mega-event since I was 11 or 12 years old. Back then I was a hardcore comic book fan, not only looking up to Batman, the X-Men and Iron Man, but also to their creators. Especially the artists. Back then guys like Jim Lee, Todd McFarlane, J. Scott Campbell, and Rob Liefeld were both my inspiration and my heroes. Of course, I’d also read Wizard, a magazine that covers the ins-and-outs of the comic industry. Every year they’d have great photos and reports from Comic-Con. I’d read about the artists interacting with the fans, the super impressive booths, the thought provoking panels, the merchandise, and more. Every year I’d think “Man, I need to get to this.” For one reason or another, timing just never panned out. The fact that I lived on the east coast, 3,000 miles away from the convention probably didn’t help. Read Full Post »

Get “Twestive”

LA Twestival website

This past weekend I launched a “save the date” site for the Los Angeles Twestival. An annual charity celebration where people in hundreds of cities around the world will come together offline to rally for an important cause.

If you’re in the Los Angeles area on Thursday March 25, 2010, join us. If not, see if there’s a Twestival in your neck of the woods.

Happy 2010

2009 was quite a whirlwind. I switched jobs and switched coasts. In the past year, I believe I grew as both a designer and as a person. I gained a better understanding of the things that are most important to me in life. I further explored creating my own style and artistic approach as a designer. I also learned that fitting everything you own into a 12′ x 12′ x 6′ area in the back of a moving van is harder than it initially sounds.

I’m excited to see what 2010 has in store.

If you’re reading this — Thanks! I wish you all a happy and prosperous new year!
